HASTINGS MUSEUM & ART GALLERY PROJECT: Rooms for Ideas
'Rooms for Ideas' was an exhibition of objects and jewellery by a group of nine Jewellers in Hastings and St.Leonards.
The focus was Hastings Museum and Art Gallery, each jeweller taking inspiration from a room in the museum picked at random from a hat. Tha aim was to create a collection of jewellery and objects to be worn or carried around the body.
Amy Madge picked the Lower Durbar Hall.
Durbar means 'council' or 'meeting' in Hindi. In an Indian palace the Durbar was a room used for court and grand assemblies. This hall is a Victorian replica, it is decorated with sacred geometry and natural forms and is now used for marriage ceremonies. In response, Amy Madge chose nature, union, the wisdom of ages, and love as the focal points for her work.
